The Search for Meaning in Artistic Narrative Illustration

The author analyses the potential equivalence between a literary text and its artistic illustration. What are the qualities of a good illustration? What is the criterion for a better illustration? Which factors determine the equivalence of an image and a text? Can illustrations be 'read' in a similar way to text? These and other questions are the focus of the author's attention. The book offers topics from aesthetics, intermedial studies, art history and psychology. Selected chapters are concluded with an autopsy by the author, who is himself a book illustrator of adventure and science literature.
