The trail from the dream

A collection of twelve shorter, stylistically refined texts by Hesse was first published in 1945 under the title Traumfährte (Trace of a Dream). Although the author himself subtitled it New Tales and Fairy Tales, these were texts that had not been published until then or were only published in magazines, mostly written between 1910 and 1932. The collection includes fairy tales, symbolist short stories, parodies, stories written in parallel to the author's better known, larger works (On the Steppe Wolf) and two autobiographical sketches (Childhood of a Magician and A Brief Biography).
