The Verve: Urban Hymns

LP Record The Verve's Urban Hymns is a sprawling and ambitious album that touches on a variety of genres, from rock to electronica to gospel. The album is at its best when the band is at its most experimental, such as on the trip-hop infused "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and the atmospheric "The Drugs Don't Work". At its worst, the album can be a little too self-indulgent, such as on the overlong "Lucky Man". Overall, however, "Urban Hymns" is an impressive achievement from a band at the peak of their powers.
