The Who: Who's Next

LP Record How many weeks have The Who spent at number one on the UK album chart since their first appearance in December 1965? The very surprising answer is: one. On the chart dated 18 September 1971, Pete, Roger, John and Keith hit the top with the mighty Who's Next. The album had debuted the week before at number two, behind Simon & Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water LP. In its second week, Who's Next climbed to number one, only to be knocked off a week later by Deep Purple's Fireball. Three other Who studio albums reached number two in the UK (Tommy, Quadrophenia and Face Dances), as did the 1976 compilation The Story Of The Who.
