Everything you really need to know, you can learn from horses.
"You can't hide anything from horses, they have a level of sensitivity to us that we don't have for each other," says horse whisperer and trainer Grant Golliher. During his many years of experience working with horses, he has gained a great deal of knowledge about communication, setting boundaries, fairness, trust and respect, that are not only about horses, but also people.
We don't need any special skills or qualifications to pay attention to others and treat them with sensitivity. We need humility and a willingness to learn. We tend to get easily distracted or immersed in our own thoughts and feelings. We miss the clues that are right in front of our eyes. Or if we notice them, we misinterpret them because we are looking at them through the filter of our own emotions. Tuning in to others and paying enough attention to them to sense what's going on beneath the surface is as natural and age-old as the harmony between horses, the people on their backs, and nature.
Spellin' horses is not magic. It is just about developing a voluntary partnership based on mutual trust and respect. It is an approach that will benefit anyone who wants to better understand people and humanity, overcome trauma, experience fuller relationships, and unlock the untapped potential of their lives. There's no magic involved. Just think like a horse.
