There is no escape

This book will send a chill down your spine

After a break-up, education student Sóldís urgently needs to find a new place to live and a job, so she enthusiastically accepts a position as a private tutor for the daughters of a wealthy couple living in a luxurious mansion in a remote, secluded corner of the western Icelandic countryside. Although her employers make a somewhat unsettling impression and life in the lonely place gradually begins to fill her with ominous forebodings, she decides to grit her teeth and overcome her fears. Is it the right move?
After years in Sweden, police investigator Týr returns to his native Iceland because, at a turning point in his life, he longs for a new beginning. Soon after joining the criminal investigation team in Reykjavik, he must join the search for the perpetrator of a crime he could not have imagined in his worst nightmares in the peaceful island nation—a brutal quadruple murder. But in the end, his sleep will be disturbed by even more terrifying nightmares than the image of the lifeless eyes of four innocent victims.
Translated by Lucie Korecká.

Reviews for the book The Prey

“The best thing about this book, as I believe with all of Yrsa's truly successful novels, is its atmosphere of horror and mystery.”

Thorgeir Tryggvason

“A book that grabs the reader and doesn't let go. Exceptionally brutal at times, but the story flows beautifully, so you completely forget about time.”

Björn Thorláksson

“This book will send a chill down your spine.”

Morgunblaðið newspaper

“Spooky, merciless, intense. That's how you can describe the style of this Icelandic writer. Instead of stories about happy tourists, she brings horrifying tales full of death from the popular Nordic island, which, after reading, leave you longing for more books by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir.”

Ratgeber Frau und Familie magazine

About the author
Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir (1963) is a world-renowned Icelandic author of crime and thriller literature. In 2005, she published her first detective novel, Last Rituals, which immediately earned her the nickname “the queen of Nordic noir” and marked the beginning of her award-winning series featuring lawyer Thóra Gudmundsdóttir.
She solidified her position as one of the best contemporary crime authors with a series of standalone thrillers, which have been translated into more than 30 languages, and especially with her 2014 novel The Legacy, the first book in the loose series featuring child psychologist Freyja and detective Huldar. A year later, she followed it up with the second instalment, The Reckoning, and then the third, The Absolution.
