The book They Up Close, We Under Scrutiny provides testimony on migration and integration
This book was mostly written in 2016, when the influx of refugees into Europe was at its peak and the reactions of European nations and governments to the unexpected situation began to vary. We in the Czech Republic only saw a crowd on the screens, rarely faces. Especially when the fences went up between "us" and "them". We could not counter the sense of threat with our own experience with migrants on our soil, nor with the knowledge of their incipient integration in our neighbours. It has hardly been written about.
This led the author to the decision to travel to the nearest foreign country, to equip himself with personal knowledge and then to write at least a brief but hopefully objective account of immigration and integration. While some pages of this book warn, others prove that migrants are not changing Europe's identity and are not visibly seeking to Islamise it.
