Thou shalt not kill

The novel realistically depicts life in a small Slovak town during the time of the Slovak state, the attitude of the inhabitants towards the Jews before they were taken to concentration camps. The story is told from the point of view of two girls who do not understand why they have to leave their home, and the whole journey in cattle cars to Auschwitz is a shock for them. A life of fear, lack, tragedy, evil and love awaits them. How do they manage to endure the inhuman physical and psychological abuse and survive the horrific conditions of the concentration camp?
