Three apples dropped from the sky

Somewhere in the Armenian mountains we find the ancient stone village of Maran. It has little connection to the outside world. There are only a few old women and old men who have lived here all their lives and their families have belonged here since time immemorial. Therefore, they do not want to go down to the lowlands and leave the graves of their loved ones. They quietly resist the pressure of the modern world in a simple order defined by the natural and economic cycle in accordance with ancient customs and traditions. We will get to know the inhabitants of Marano and their often difficult fates. For example, Anatoly Sevojantse, who one day shortly after noon prepared to die, not knowing that many beautiful things were still to come and that it would turn out that we should never stop believing that good will be rewarded and evil punished. The Marans themselves would say that "It's probably meant to be, because it's God's will," which is their favorite saying.

Stories about the strength of the human spirit, about devotion and nobility flow easily. In the process, we also follow the history of Armenia during the long twentieth century, with its revolutions, wars and immense famine.

In 2016, the book won the prestigious Jasna Poljana Literary Award established by the Leo Tolstoy Museum and Samsung Electronics and has been translated into 14 languages.
