Four extraordinary friends. One brutal murder. Welcome to the Thursday Detective Club.
Every Thursday, amateur detectives meet in Coopers Chase, an upmarket retirement town somewhere in the middle of the Kent woods, to tackle unsolved murders for the local police.
Coopers Chase stands on the site of a former convent and the local developer, an arrogant vulgar man who owns a big red piano, is seeking to use the white space in the covenant to build eight new flats on the site of the chapel and graveyard. Apparently he's not destined for a long life, and when someone gives him a lethal injection, the Thursday Detective Club has a real murder case on its hands. Can this amateur but brilliant senior club catch a killer before it's too late?
Thursday's Detective Club is the first novel by British television presenter and comedian Richard Osman, and also Britain's best-selling first crime novel, according to the Guardian. This relaxed detective story (cosy crime in English) for all, which critics compare to Agatha Christie's detective stories, has already sold more than a million copies worldwide.
The author has confirmed that the film rights have already been bought by Steven Spielberg, so we'll probably see the Thursday Detective Club in action on screen soon.
