Tom Waits: Alice

LP Record "Alenka" is a spectral, atmospheric chamber piece dedicated to Charles Dodgson's obsessive, forbidden love for Alice Liddell, for whom Alice in Wonderland was created. The piano, pump organ, cello, theremin and stroh violin are the main instruments in this melancholy and comical reflection on death, desire and the random cruelty of life. In the song of the same name, "Alice", Tom Waits adapts the classic blues-jazz ballad poetry from his early career, and in the song "Lost in the Harbour", a sea shanty set to pump organ and strings, he sings about the wall that separated East and West Germany.
