Toyen - The erotic years

Previously unknown chapters of erotic art in the sequel to the successful audiobook. In this follow-up to the audio version of the book Toyen, The First Lady of Surrealism (SD 6834-0), Andrea Sedláčková explores a specific part of the famous painter Toyen's work that long remained hidden from the general public – her erotic art from the period 1921–1938. The lyrical and humorous drawings were considered pornographic at the time, but today we understand them as purely artistic. Andrea Sedláčková examines whether we can also perceive this erotic work as a reflection of the painter's own sexuality. The author went through numerous archives, correspondence, contemporary records, memoirs, and police files. She discovered previously unknown drawings and new information that completes the picture of Toyen's personal and social life. A large part of the book is also dedicated to the painter's friend, Jindřich Štýrský, and other creators of the artistic avant-garde of the 1920s and 30s. The text is interpreted with immense authenticity and great passion by Eliška Balzerová, who also read the previous volume dedicated to Toyen's life and painting. The afterword by Karel Srp is read by Igor Orozovič. His song, Toyen, also concludes the entire recording.
