Transfusion medicine

The publication offers information on the properties, production, storage and indications for the administration of transfusion products. It describes the transfusion procedure, including possible complications and post-transfusion reactions. The chapter on Immunohematology gives an overview of the blood group systems of erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets and does not forget about the examination methods and practical procedures.

Separate chapters are devoted to autologous transfusions, blood derivatives, therapeutic haemapheresis, haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn and haemovigilance. The textbook with a rich pictorial appendix (36 figures, 42 tables, 2 diagrams) is intended especially for medical students and aspiring physicians. It has the potential to become a valuable tool for all physicians for whom transfusion is a daily practice. The preparation of the book was initiated by the Committee of the Society for Transfusion Medicine of the Czech Society of Transfusion Medicine.
