Tyrolean Elegies and Letters from Brixen
Karel Havlicek Borovsky (1821 - 1856) Czech poet, journalist and politician was exiled to Brixen in 1851 for his journalistic activities, then in South Tyrol, now Bressanone in northern Italy. He was in exile until 1855. He wrote a satirical poetic composition Tyrolean Elegies about his trip to Brixen. It is very interesting to compare this satirical account with the everyday life he describes in his letters from Brixen, which he sent not only to his wife Julia and brother František, but also to other leading figures of Czech culture and society at the time.
