Various: Elefantazie (Klus Tomas) - CD

A musical of hideous beauty is how the authors Darek Král (music), Tomáš Belko (lyrics) and David Drábek (author of the original play and director) define the successful musical theatre performance Elefantazie. This is the fascinating story of Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man, who became an attraction in Victorian London. The sadness of the fragile soul of an intelligent young man trapped in a disfigured body has attracted playwrights and filmmakers in the past. Some time ago it was also first performed at the ABC Theatre in Prague in the form of the original Czech musical Elefantazie starring Tomáš Klus and Tomáš Havlínek. The world of the panopticon of human curiosities and the fate of its inhabitants, the legendary Siamese Blažek sisters, the wild woman Samira, the Three Legged Frank and the Halic giant Moyzess, opens here. Who is the cruel Dr. Howard Reinhold and what chance does the goodness of his colleague Dr. Frederick Treves, who decided to give the Elephant Man a home and care? Who will uncover the secrets of Jack the Ripper and how might a London sojourn have influenced Mahatma Gandhi? And what will the protagonist experience on his journey from the squalor of the cage to the salons of high society? These are all questions and stories revealed in the studio recording of songs from the musical Elefantazie. The music was written by the experienced composer Darek Král, who is also behind the musical production of this album and for the arrangement of the songs he invited Jan P. Toadstool. The lyrics were written by Tomáš Belko, and the final form of the recordings was made at the beginning of this year in the Sono studio.
Several talented performers appear on the album, as well as in the theatrical version of the musical. For the most famous of them, Tomáš Klus, this is his first return to the theatre after graduating from DAMU ten years ago. Next, Tomáš Havlínek will present himself, Petr Konáš, Katerina Marie Fialová, Filip Březina, Tereza Marečková, Zdeněk Piškula, Kryštof Krhovják and others. Elefantasy is an extraordinary experience that adds to the list of the best original local musicals
