Hrabal is unique. In the way he wrote, and in what he wrote about. He was fascinated by the mystery and hidden beauty of ugly places, ordinary things and small human destinies. Through his typewriter, he frantically searched for a way to transfer his fascination to us. In doing so, he subjected the Czech language to stress tests to see if it was capable of this transfer. I am convinced that he has tested it perfectly, and I do not envy the translators into other languages their difficult task. The short story is a good literary form. Its brevity forces the author to be dense. A word in a short story seems to have more specific weight than in a novel. I would like you to enjoy Hrabal's words as much as the actors who say them. We packed one treat: a short story read by Bohumil Hrabal himself. Adding to all this, all proceeds from the sale of this CD go to help wheelchair users.
