Various: Protestsongy 1966-2017 - Especially in popular music (2x CD) - CD

For the first time on the market, a premium double album of 48 songs has been released, unified by the content of their lyrics and heartfelt performances. During the socialist era, there was a certain loosening of restrictions in the mid-1960s, leading to a brief period of freedom. Thanks to their songwriters, artists could sing songs with meaningful lyrics pointing out social ills, political oppression, prohibitions, and war. But it was especially the August 1968 occupation by foreign troops and the subsequent censorship that they addressed.

This also created a breeding ground for several crucial Czech singer-songwriters. However, only a few of them gave their consent to be included on this compilation. Therefore, the content focuses primarily on “popular” music.

In the tense period of the late 1960s, most singers of that time had a powerful protest song in their repertoire. Husák’s era of normalisation subsequently scattered everything, leaving only scraps available on the fringes. This music release provides a cross-section of the most essential songs performed by Marta Kubišová, Karel Kryl, David Koller, Karel Černoch, Petr Novák, Pavel Novák, Bohdan Mikolášek, Petr Spálený, Bára Poláková, Synkopy 61, Olin Nejezchleba, Paleček & Janík, Robo Grigorov, Bohdan Mikolášek, and others.

Roughly 14 of the recordings are being released on CD for the first time. As Karel Kryl used to say: “When you see bad things, it's stupid to stay silent! ”.
