Velebný Karel: Seven Stops with Gustav Brom - CD
Approximately two thousand titles, which, starting in 1957, were successively recorded by the Gustav Brom Orchestra at the Brno Radio, 18 compositions by Karel Velebný are counted as a rare collection, which he arranged especially for Brom's "medium" big band (4 saxes, 3 trombones, 3 trumpets and rhythmics) and in 14 of them he guested with his vibraphone. Between 1969 and 1981 he came seven times with his instrument to authorise new versions of his compositions, twice: carefully in the quiet of the studio and live with audience participation, on popular public radio recordings. By 1988, the Brom Orchestra had recorded four more of Velebný's compositions without the composer's personal participation. While we have a large amount of the SHQ's repertoire on several less official recordings, the Brno orchestral recordings leave the darkness and silence of the radio sound archive for the first time to add a hitherto unknown face to the musician's portrait.
