Ventilated facades

Ventilated and double-skin façades significantly enhance the architectural expression of prominent public and administrative buildings. They are characterised by a high variability of facing materials, which are applied through colour, texture, and detailed finishing.

This publication provides an overview of characteristic products for the facing layer of these claddings, considering their aesthetic properties, usual dimensions, and colour options. Individual material types are presented through examples of contemporary, architecturally interesting, and completed buildings. At the same time, technical solutions for anchoring details and the arrangement of functional layers are analysed with regard to the facing materials used.

Attention is paid to the importance and function of the ventilated air gap, its correct design, and the overall building physics parameters of these claddings with respect to the energy demands of buildings and the long-term reliability of their function.
