In the eighth instalment of the Department Q detective series, the author reveals Assad's troubled past
The body of a refugee is found on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The newspapers write about him as “Victim 2117”, and his death triggers a series of unexpected events that bring Assad to the brink of collapse. He must face demons from his past, conjured up by the articles of a Spanish journalist, while at the same time, he and Carl find themselves in a relentless race against time to prevent an inevitable catastrophe in the middle of Europe. This catastrophe is being prepared by an Iraqi terrorist, Ghalib.
We know Assad as a man with a peculiar sense of humour who can handle any situation. However, his dark past has so far remained hidden from us. What is his real story?
