The original Slovak crime
Lengthening shadows and golden leaves herald autumn. It also includes showers and rain. Some love this time of year, others dislike it for its melancholy. The party around Chief Inspector Ledecky are mostly pragmatists. But two murders reported within hours can shake them up. In an old military bunker by the Morava River, the corpse of a young man is discovered. In the park, almost in the middle of the city, a dead schoolgirl. One murder is brutal and brutalised, the other cold-blooded and at first glance almost professionally finished.
Korejs thus "gets" his first separate case. Ledecky and the rest of the team will hit the hot trail. The violent death of a child outrages the whole town and plunges it into fear. The killers only want one thing - to find the killers. However, at least one of them is far from finishing his work.
Days pass and another body is found in a hospital elevator in Kramary. Travelling by bus also proves deadly. Except for the method of killing the victim, nothing connects.
As if that wasn't enough, the weary criminals also get an unwanted reinforcement. In the course of the search for the human beast, they must also deal with tensions within the party. Despite all the dead ends, they eventually get to the killer. But to reveal is not to prove. There is nothing left but to rely on ingenuity. The killer has shown he can kill. Who will take the risk to obtain the necessary evidence? In Crying Autumn, the author loosely follows previous detective novels (The Raven's Court, Murder with added value, An uncorrected mistake, Shadows of the past, Cursed Inheritance), whose main heroes are members of the Bratislava "mordparty". He draws on his experience as an elite police officer who has known both the pleasant and the shady sides of fame. Nothing is purely black or white. But what remains essential? at the end of the day, a guy needs to be able to look in the mirror.
