When the dogs came
A masterful novel from the post-war Beskids by the author of the bestseller When You See the Sea
Some secrets should remain hidden forever – it is better not to know that the heroes to whom we have built monuments have actually hurt many people. Živa, Ludmila, Slávek, Ondráš and Karel all have something to hide. But who can judge them when they spent their youth in a time when the inhabitants of the Beskids feared the partisans as much as they did the German soldiers? And is it possible to distinguish good from evil when your soul is irreversibly scarred? The mountains of Wallachia still hide stories of great loves and unfulfilled dreams. The time has come to tell them… In her historical novel set in the post-war Beskids, Scarlett Wilková bears witness to the fact that the pain of war does not end with the last shot.
