When there is no king

The collection of short stories When He Is Not King attempts to introduce Nguyen Huy Thiep as an author who always managed to surprise again with a new theme or even its rendition. In addition to dense narratives from the everyday present, there is a raw excursion into history, a pseudo-report from a curious market, a glimpse into the fragile world of children, a handful of fairy tales from a mountain village or an anecdotal story from the Hanoi district.
