Alice is forty, has two children, and has just split up with her husband. She's moving back to the town where she was born and raised. Back to her roots!
She wants to get her thoughts in order at home and start over from scratch. After all, they say life begins at forty. And what better way to start than a birthday party with her friends? "I always overdo it on my birthday, let loose a little, and then it's back to normal," Alice says, looking forward to it. But getting back to normal won't be so easy, and her life is about to take a completely unexpected turn.
At the party, she meets three young men, spends the night with one of them, and then offers to let them all stay with her for a while. Suddenly, her household is a lot bigger, and a dangerously budding romance – perhaps even love – begins to blossom. And then her ex-husband shows up at the door, suitcase in hand.
