"I thought I heard a scream! I hope my ball didn't hurt anyone." Agatha Christie detectives Why didn't they ask Evans?
During a not-so-good game on the golf course at Marchbolt, Bobby and Dr. Thomas discover a man who has fallen off a cliff at the tee of the dreaded 17th hole. The son of the local vicar, who is waiting for the doctor's return, hears the dying man's last words. Looking in his pocket, he finds a photograph of a lovely woman with her eyes far apart. A few days later, Mrs. Cayman, the sister of - according to the jury - the deceased Alex Pritchard, visits the young man at the rectory to ask about a possible last message from the deceased... But Bobby doesn't remember anything at that moment, because - hand on heart - who says anything right before they die: "Why didn't they ask Evans?"
