A mysterious young man named Jeremy Pennington arrives in Mertonford, where Nicole Wayet is temporarily living. Their first meeting doesn't go well, and although Nicole would love to get rid of him, she can't seem to shake him off – Jeremy is always on her heels. Fortunately, he accompanies her to her governess's house, who has just returned from London and wants to tell Nicole the truth about her origins. However, they find her murdered. Nicole has no idea that the teacher's death is connected to her past, and that Jeremy's arrival in Mertonford was no accident. A race against time begins – a fight for life, and above all, for love.
