Windows Full of Vistas
Very few modern poets are quoted as often—and at the same time turned into such a cultural cliché—as Rilke. He has gradually become an almost symbolic figure of melancholy contemplation, solitude, and spiritual sensitivity. Behind the image of the “poet of angels, roses, and solitude,” however, lies a much more restless, concrete, and modern author. A poet who was able to capture with extraordinary precision the experience of a person losing their self-evidence in relation to the world surrounding them. And this is exactly how translator Radek Malý presents him.
