Young man with trumpet - DVD

A lonely boy grows into a man with only a second-hand trumpet and the loving advice of a great bluesman. He becomes an accomplished musician whose talent takes him from wanderings to swanky nightclubs. His desperate attempt to find the ever-elusive high note he carries in his head but is unable to play leads him into the arms of alcohol. Dynamic performances by Kirk Douglas (title role), Doris Day, Lauren Bacall and Hoagy Carmichael and precise direction by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca) made the film a showcase of hot, great, emotional jazz. Douglas' trumpet playing is doubled by the legendary Harry James. Day introduces another great instrument - his voice. Both film and music lovers will rejoice in meeting this man.
