Younger Sister - Volume I.
Mr Watson is a widowed vicar with a large brood of two sons and four daughters. The youngest of them, Emma, was brought up in the family of her wealthy aunt, and is therefore more educated and refined than her sisters Elisabeth, Margaret and Penelope. But when the aforementioned aunt is also widowed and enters into an unequal love marriage, Emma is forced to return to her father's house. There he encounters not only a hypochondriacal and loving father, but also the unbridled husband-seeking that Margaret and Penelope use to harass their surroundings. He is therefore drawn to his eldest sister Elisabeth, not very intelligent, but sincere and devoted to the rest of the family.
The Osborne family lives in the Watson neighborhood. Emma gains the unwelcome attention of young Lord Osborne, while Margaret literally pursues his unscrupulous henchman Tom Musgrave. He is, however, showing off more to her sister-in-law, the noble and snobbish Jane, who has come to visit the Watsons, accompanied by her husband, Emma's abusive brother Robert. But the immediate vicinity is not free of other men, and so we can watch the Austen-like opening of the great game, in which the author and her followers move the pieces on the chessboard of the plot with irony and humour.
The novel The Younger Sister was written by Jane Austen under the title The Watsons. This work was completed by her niece Catherine Austen Hubback, writer and guardian of her great aunt's legacy.
