Zabelov Group: Eg - LP
A two-year musical experiment, in which the Zabelov Group collected material and honed efforts for a conceptually concentrated recording, crystallized into an album called “Eg“.
The album was recorded in several places, but the centerpiece was the renowned Svárov studio, but it also contains many field recordings and, for example, the sound of a church organ.
The filming itself was supervised by sound engineer Lukáš Martínek and Matouš Godík, who also took care of the final mastering. “ Several tendencies have started to be layered in our work. Discovering the sound possibilities of a modulated accordion leads us to both ambient music and strict grooves. We are interested in both abstract compositions and combinations with the narrative of the spoken word and field recordings. We discover our playing possibilities, and at the same time we enjoy the possibilities of studio post-production. I don' t know if we will have the will for such a synthesis in future recordings, but on the album ' Eg' we managed to connect all these levels, “this is how Jan Šikl thought about the creation itself.
Zabelov Group was formed in 2012, when the musical dialogue between accordionist Roman Zabelov and multi-instrumentalist Jan Šikl acquired its real shapes. In the same year, the debut “40,000 km“ was released, on which they defined the form of their own work - a broadly staggered concept of jazz, fascination with rhythmic sequences and abstract vocals. The subsequent “Secret Session“ was the initial establishment of a collaboration with Matouš Godík and the refinement of sound edges. The forerunner of the third line “Eg“ then became the lone single “Lék“. The development of musical efforts Zabelov Group is permeated by the effort to maintain a living contact with a musical instrument, and at the same time to fulfill the whole spectrum of club sound in only two. Thus, the original acoustic puritanism gradually became a complex of cinematic music intertwined with samples and acoustic instruments extended by electronics.
The unusual title of the album is described by Jan Šikl in these words: “ Eg is a pig. What you say without being able to name. Verbalized intuition and pure gesture. Our album is the result of a process that is too conscious to fulfill these words, but it came with such urgency. Intuition is homeopathically diluted into targeted, long and detailed work and the gesture of pronunciation in sequences arranged between individual tracks. "
