Castle
The main protagonist of the novel The Castle is a young land surveyor known as K. He arrives from an unknown place to an unknown village to carry out a geodesic survey. He soon notices that the local inhabitants distrust and fear him. At first, he doesn't quite understand the situation, but he gradually comes to realise that the entire life of the village is controlled by a mysterious castle overlooking it, acting through various bureaucrats of greater or lesser importance. Why has the person who summoned him to the village suddenly started putting obstacles in his way? Kafka's absurdly grotesque novel is among his finest works. To this day, the book has hundreds, if not thousands, of fascinating interpretations, and it is certain that it will not leave today's reader indifferent, because Kafka, in all his contradiction, represents the 20th century, to which we all belong with at least one foot.
