Detective Josef Bergman wants to spend a quiet holiday in a remote village by a Norwegian fjord. But instead of fishing, he finds himself embroiled in a very tangled case.
Local psychosomatic therapist Katrine starts receiving threatening messages blaming her for her neighbour's death. Soon after, another of Katrine's patients dies. Fishermen find her strangled in a deserted spot by the river. Bergman gradually discovers that almost every inhabitant of the seemingly idyllic village has a secret.
