NATURE-STORE perfect - C ester 10 ml
Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is a highly stable oil-soluble ester of vitamin C. It has excellent penetration into the skin and as a result offers increased UV-B protection. Skin cell viability is increased by up to 30% compared to L-ascorbic acid. Studies have shown that it stimulates collagen production, brightens and lightens skin by preventing melanogenesis (pigment formation), thus promoting a more even skin tone. Unlike ascorbic acid, it will not exfoliate or irritate the skin.
Key features of Perfect-C ester NATURE-STORE
- It has antioxidant activity and inhibits lipid peroxidation
- Topical use may mitigate the harmful effects of ultraviolet exposure
- Promotes even skin tone
- Less irritating than other forms of vitamin C
The action of vitamin C
The problem with most topical forms of vitamin C is that they are water-soluble and cannot pass through the lipid-rich lipid barrier to get into the dermis of the skin where they might have maximum benefits. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is able to successfully penetrate the epidermis and move into a layer called the dermis. It is the collagen in the dermis that gives the skin its youthful firmness and ability to resist wrinkles.
When the skin is exposed to UV radiation from the sun, a sequence of events occurs that leads to the production of free radicals. These free radicals damage skin cell membranes and activate enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, two of the most important proteins that keep skin firm and young. Vitamin C has the ability to donate electrons to free radicals, so they are not so harmful to cellular structures. Vitamin C is not a substitute for sun protection, but provides additional protection against oxidative damage that can lead to premature aging and skin cancer.
Like most forms of vitamin C, tetrahydrohexyl decyl sulfate is safe. The Environmental Working Group classifies it as a low risk cosmetic ingredient. Most forms of topical vitamin C cause skin irritation and redness, but tetrahexyldecyl sulfate is less irritating than other forms.
