Method of administration and duration of treatment
TreatmentsThe tablets are flavoured and studies have shown that they have an attractive taste to dogs and that the majority of dogs tested (88%) accept them voluntarily. The tablets can be administered with food or fasted. It is not necessary to restrict the amount or composition of the food the dog normally receives before or after treatment. Split tablets should be discarded immediately or returned in the opened blister until used. For the treatment of round and flat worms, tablets should be given as a single dose. Dosage should be determined in consultation with your veterinarian. In general, adult dogs (over six months old) should be wormed every three months according to the standard schedule. If the dog owner chooses not to use conventional anthelmintic treatment, a faecal examination every three months may be a suitable alternative. In certain circumstances, such as nursing bitches, puppies (under 6 months) or dogs in shelters, it may be necessary to deworm more frequently. In such cases, an appropriate deworming schedule should be prepared in cooperation with the veterinarian. Similarly, in some situations (e.g. in case of severe infestation with roundworms or infestation with Echinococcus parasites) it may be necessary to proceed to further treatment. The veterinarian will help decide when it is necessary to provide further treatment. Do not use in dogs weighing less than 7 kg.
In the treatment of infestations of Giardia spp.
The recommended dose should be administered for three consecutive days. To reduce the likelihood of reinfection with Giardia protozoa, it is recommended to thoroughly clean and disinfect the environment in which the dog lives, or to move the dog to another location, especially if it is a dog in a shelter or kennel. In particular, under circumstances of extreme infestation pressure, the elimination of Giardia spp. in some dogs is incomplete. In such cases, there remains a potential risk of human infection. For these reasons, the dog should be re-examined. Based on the results of the examination, the veterinarian should decide whether it is necessary to re-treat the animal.
