Thanks to the Oxo-biodegradation process, the bags completely decompose within 5 years. It is a 2-step process, where in the first phase oxidative degradation takes place, during which TDPATM acts as a catalyst causing polymer chain cleavage, resulting in shorter chain molecules and a reduction in molecular weight. The oxidative degradation process continues until the plastic is transformed from a polymer into a material. In the second phase, biodegradation takes place, during which the oxidised materials are consumed by bacteria, fungi and micro-organisms into carbon dioxide, water and humus.
