Piracetam AL is used as a symptomatic treatment for psychoorganic syndrome, in which treatment improves symptoms such as memory loss, attention deficit disorder and lack of energy - cortical myoclonia alone or in
in combination. It positively affects the function of brain cells in the areas of learning and memory, alertness and consciousness. In patients with deficient central nervous system function, short- and long-term administration of piracetam increases alertness and improves cognitive abilities.
Without consulting a physician, Piracetam AL is used in adults to treat symptoms of psychoorganic syndrome. Psychoorganic syndrome is a disorder of brain activity that manifests itself, e.g. memory loss, attention deficit disorder and lack of energy. For cortical myoclonia (involuntary twitching of individual muscles), Piracetam AL is used only on the advice of a doctor.
Piracetam AL is given to children only on the advice of a doctor:
to facilitate learning and improve memory functions in developmental dyslexia (a disorder in which a child has reading difficulties that are not caused by an intelligence impairment).
The product can be used by adults, adolescents and children from 8 years of age. The package contains 60 tablets.
Dosage and method of use
The following dosage is recommended for the treatment of psychoorganic syndrome in adults:
The recommended daily dose of piracetam is in the range of 2.4 - 4.8 g per day, divided into two to three doses.
For the treatment of cortical myoclonia, the following dosage guidelines apply: The daily dose should start at 7.2 g of piracetam, increasing by 4.8 g every three to four days up to a dose of 24 g, divided into 2-3 doses. The dosage of other antimyoclonic agents in the treatment of myoclonia should remain unchanged. Depending on the clinical benefit achieved, the dosage of similar preparations may be reduced. Once piracetam is started in cortical myoclonia, treatment should be continued as long as symptoms of cerebral disease persist. Patients with acute episodes may develop spontaneously over time and an attempt should be made to reduce or discontinue treatment every 6 months. This is done by reducing the dose of piracetam by 1.2 g every other day (every three to four days in the case of Lance and Adams syndrome, to prevent a possible sudden relapse or seizure after discontinuation of the medication).
The following dosage is recommended for the treatment of dyslexia in children 8 years and older: 3.2 g of piracetam divided into two doses, usually throughout the school year.
Contraindications
Read the package insert carefully. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you think, that you might be pregnant, or you're planning to get pregnant, check with your doctor or pharmacist first, before taking this medicine. Do not take Piracetam AL if you are allergic to piracetam or similar substances (pyrrolidone derivatives) or to any of the other ingredients in this medicine.
Notice
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Piracetam AL if you have kidney problems. If necessary, you will take a reduced dose of the product. Piracetam AL affects blood clotting. Consult your physician before taking if any of the following conditions apply to you: - you are suffering from severe bleeding - you have an increased risk of bleeding - e.g. ulcer of the digestive tract - you have a history of stroke with bleeding in the brain - you have a bleeding disorder - you have to undergo a surgical procedure, including dental surgery - you are taking medication to prevent blood clotting (called anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents), e.g. acetylsalicylic acid.
Storage
This product does not require any special storage conditions. Keep this product out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the box and blister. The expiry date shall be the last day of the month indicated. Do not dispose of any medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of products you no longer use. These measures help protect the environment.
