The principle of the test

The FOB TEST for occult bleeding in stool is an immunochromatographic test that uses highly specific monoclonal antibodies to detect even the smallest amount of blood in stool samples. Due to these features, the FOB TEST does not require any dietary restrictions to be followed prior to the test. The FOB TEST was developed to detect the presence of human haemoglobin in a stool sample using a combination of specific antibodies. The test can detect human hemoglobin up to a concentration of 40 ng/ml, and in some cases it is also possible that samples with a hemoglobin concentration of 40 ng/ml to 36 ng/ml will still result in a positive result. The test is very accurate. The evaluation reports show a concordance of more than 92.6% (CI 95%: 88.4-96.8) with reference methods. Despite the reliability of the test, false positive or false negative results may occur.
