Prima Home Urinary Tract Infection Test 3 pcs
The Prima Home Urinary Tract Infection test can detect leukocytes, blood, nitrite and protein in urine. It is used for self-testing and the package contains everything needed to perform 3 tests. Urinary tract infections can affect the urethra, bladder, ureter and kidneys. Symptoms of infection include burning sensations, strong and frequent urge to urinate, pain in the lower abdomen, fever or chills. The test is designed for the qualitative and semi-quantitative detection of leukocytes, blood, nitrite and protein in urine by comparing coloured reagent boxes on a colour chart to determine results. You will know the result within 5 minutes.

How the Prima Home test works
The Prima Home test can detect the presence of granulocyte esterases. The blood test is based on the peroxidase activity of hemoglobin, which catalyzes the reaction of diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide and 3,3´, 5,5´-tetramethylbenzidine. The resulting colour ranges from orange to green to dark blue. The test for nitrite depends on the conversion of nitrate to nitrite by Gram-negative bacteria in the urine. In an acidic environment, nitrite in the urine reacts with p-arsanilic acid to form a diazonium compound. The diazo compound subsequently binds to 1 N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine and produces a pink colour. The test for proteins is based on a phenomenon known as protein indicator pH error, whereby a highly buffered indicator will change colour in the presence of protein. The colours range from yellow to yellow-green for negative results and from green to green-blue for positive results.
The principle of the test
Leukocytes: This test reveals the presence of granulocyte esterases. Esterases cleave the derivatized pyrosol ester of an amino acid and release the derivatized hydroxypyrazole. This pyrazole then reacts with the diazonium salt to produce a beige-pink to purple colour.
Blood: This test is based on the peroxidase activity of haemoglobin, which catalyses the reaction of diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxide and 3,3´, 5,5´-tetramethylbenzidine. The resulting colour ranges from orange to green to dark blue.
Dusitans: This test depends on the conversion of nitrate to nitrite by Gram-negative bacteria in the urine. In an acidic environment, nitrite in the urine reacts with p-arsanilic acid to form a diazonium compound. The diazo compound subsequently binds to 1 N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine and produces a pink colour.
Protein: This reaction is based on a phenomenon known as the "protein error" of the pH indicator, whereby a highly buffered indicator changes colour in the presence of proteins (anions) because the indicator releases hydrogen ions into the proteins. The colours range from yellow to yellow-green for negative results and from green to green-blue for positive results.
