Prokyber Development board ESP32-C6-BUG

The Prokyber ESP32-C6-BUG development board mini computer is a compact microcontroller built on the Espressif ESP32-C6FH4 chip with a 32-bit RISC-V architecture. This ESP32 development board unifies support for key wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth LE 5, and IEEE 802.15.4, which forms the basis for Zigbee and Thread, in a single device. The integrated circuit for charging a Li-Po battery ensures the board is fully autonomous for low-power wireless applications. In deep sleep mode, power consumption drops to 20µA, significantly extending the battery life of projects such as sensors or wearable electronics. The universal USB-C connector is used for programming, serial debugging, and power. Development can be done in the accessible Arduino environment as well as the advanced ESP-IDF framework, catering to the needs of both beginners and professional developers.

Key features of the Prokyber ESP32-C6-BUG development board mini computer

  • Espressif ESP32-C6 SoC integrates Wi-Fi 6, BLE 5, Zigbee and Thread
  • Deep sleep mode power consumption of just 20µA
  • Integrated circuit charges Li-Po batteries and simplifies power supply
  • Development in the Arduino environment or within the ESP-IDF framework
  • External 32.768kHz crystal improves RTC circuit accuracy
  • All 19 programmable GPIO pins are brought out to the board edge
  • Castellated mounting holes simplify breadboard and solder-down mounting

The board uses the Espressif Esp32-C6FH4 System-on-Chip (SoC)

The board uses the Espressif Esp32-C6FH4 System-on-Chip (SoC) with RISC-V architecture. It contains two processor cores: a main 32-bit core clocked at 160MHz to run the application, and a low-power 32-bit core (ULP) with a frequency of 20MHz to handle peripherals in sleep modes. A key advantage is that the board offers simultaneous support for Wi-Fi 6 and IEEE 802.15.4, paving the way for developing devices for Zigbee 3.0 and Thread networks. Wi-Fi 6 introduces the Target Wake Time (TWT) feature, which reduces power consumption during communication. Connectivity is rounded off with Bluetooth 5 (BLE) for easy pairing, transferring small amounts of data, or beacon functionality.

The USB-C connector provides power and communication with a computer

The USB-C connector provides power and communication with a computer, serving for both 5V power transfer, programming, and serial debugging. You can also power the board from a connected Li-Po battery, which is charged by a built-in circuit with a voltage measurement function. The integrated LDO regulator with a 700mA output current supplies stable voltage for the chip and connected peripherals. For connecting sensors and modules, the board provides a total of 19 programmable GPIO pins and hardware interfaces such as SPI, UART, I²C, I²S, PWM, RMT, and TWAI (compatible with CAN 2.0). The chip also includes a 12-bit ADC and an internal temperature sensor for monitoring operating conditions.

Develop applications in the Arduino IDE

You can develop applications in the Arduino IDE, which enables rapid prototyping and leverages a vast community library base. For more advanced projects, use the official ESP-IDF framework from the chip manufacturer, which unlocks the full potential of the hardware. The physical design of the board allows for flexible use. The combined holes on the edges (castellated and through-hole) simplify mounting on a solderless breadboard as well as direct soldering onto another printed circuit board (PCB) as an SMD module. For precise timing in sleep modes and for real-time clock (RTC) functions, the board includes an external 32.768kHz crystal, which is more accurate than the internal RC oscillator.

A board for a wide range of IoT projects

The combination of wireless technologies and low power consumption makes the board ideal for a wide range of IoT projects. Use it to develop end devices for your smart home, such as smart lights, switches, or battery-powered sensors (temperature, humidity, motion) that communicate via Zigbee or Thread. With Wi-Fi 6, the board can act as a protocol bridge between Wi-Fi and Thread/Zigbee networks, for example within the Home Assistant ecosystem using ESPHome firmware. The low power consumption in the tens of microamps range in power-saving modes is crucial for wearable electronics or for devices that need to run on a battery for months or even years.
