QNAP TS-855X-8G

QNAP TS-855X-8G
The QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS serves as a centralised network storage tower designed for business deployment, simplifying data storage and virtualisation applications. The device is powered by an octa-core Intel Atom C5125 processor with a frequency of 2.8GHz, which is complemented by 8GB of DDR4 system memory. The RAM can be expanded up to 128GB using four slots for the smooth running of multiple concurrent tasks. Integrated Intel QuickAssist Technology offloads system compression and accelerates data transfer encryption using AES-NI hardware acceleration. The device supports the installation of both ECC and non-ECC memory modules for stable operation in a corporate environment.
Key features of the QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS

High-speed network connectivity
The QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS network storage offers two integrated 2.5GbE LAN ports and one 10GbE LAN port for fast communication in a corporate infrastructure. SMB 3.0 Multichannel technology combines the bandwidth of both ports for a resulting transfer speed of up to 5Gb/s. When transferring files in Windows over two 2.5GbE links, download speeds reach 589MB/s and upload speeds reach 586MB/s. SMB sequential throughput using a single 10GbE connection reaches 1181MB/s for both data reading and writing. These parameters support demanding network applications and speed up backups.
Capacity expansion options
The design of the QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS includes six bays for 3.5" SATA hard drives and two bays for 2.5" SATA SSDs to create a hybrid storage solution. The capacity can also be expanded by connecting external JBOD units, TL-R1620Sep-RP or TL-R1220Sep-RP, adding up to another 48 drives. The total storage capacity is up to 240TB of data. The system supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, RAID 50, and RAID 60 disk array configurations with a hot-swap function for replacing drives without interrupting operation.
M.2 SSD slots and acceleration
The motherboard features two M.2 PCIe Gen 3 slots for installing fast 2280-format NVMe SSDs. These bays can be used to accelerate the system with an SSD cache or to create a disk array for installing the QuTS hero operating system. Installing M.2 drives does not occupy the standard hard drive bays. The slots can also be fitted with a Coral M.2 accelerator with Edge TPU, which speeds up face and object recognition in AI applications.
Virtualisation and container applications
The QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS supports running multiple virtual machines with Windows, Linux, UNIX, and Android systems in the Virtualization Station application. The integrated Container Station environment facilitates the operation of containerised applications, supporting Docker, LXD, and Kata Containers technologies. After installing a compatible network card, SR-IOV technology allows physical network resources to be allocated directly to virtual machines, which reduces CPU load and increases network data transfer efficiency.
Comprehensive backup solution
The QNAP TS-855X-8G NAS acts as a centralised backup centre for PCs running Windows and Mac, VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, and Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 cloud data. Block-level system snapshots protect stored data from ransomware and facilitate instant recovery of an entire volume to a previous state. Snapshot replication transfers changes to remote storage, saving bandwidth and time when creating secondary backups.
ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system
Users can switch from the standard QTS operating system to the advanced QuTS hero system, which is built on the ZFS file system. The operating system supports data integrity and protection against corruption and includes tools for inline data reduction. Inline deduplication, compression, and compaction save storage space on both SSD and HDD drives, reducing overall capacity requirements and increasing write stability in a corporate environment.
