It really doesn't need any receiver in the USB slot.
Pairing on the first try and so far it seems to be working.
Replacing batteries. Just inserting the batteries (2 AA underneath each other) is a challenge, because inserting the bottom battery is explicitly hindered by the contact spring for the top battery (but then again, the mouse is smaller, yes).
