What is Rhinostas and what is it used for
This medicine contains the medicinal substance xylometazoline hydrochloride (alpha sympathomimetic). Xylometazoline hydrochloride has a vasoconstrictive effect (causes constriction of blood vessels), thereby reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa. This product is used for short-term treatment to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa in acute rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis (manifested by attacks of thin watery nasal discharge and stuffy nose), allergic rhinitis such as hay fever. In chronic rhinitis, due to the risk of thinning (atrophy) of the nasal mucosa, Rhinostas should only be used on the advice of a doctor. Rhinostas is intended for adults, adolescents and children from 6 years of age. If you do not feel better within 5 days (up to 3 days for children) or if you feel worse, you must consult a doctor.
How is Rhinostas used?
Always use this medicine exactly as directed in the package insert or by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not exceed the recommended dose and duration of use of the product. The recommended dosage of the product is: Unless otherwise directed by a physician, the recommended dose for adults, adolescents and children 6 years of age and older is 1 injection into each nostril as needed, up to a maximum of 3 times daily.
Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Rhinostas. Prolonged use or high doses of products that reduce nasal swelling can lead to chronic swelling and subsequent irreversible damage to the nasal mucosa (thinning - mucosal atrophy). Therefore, do not exceed the recommended duration of treatment. If you continue to experience difficulties, consult your doctor. To maintain at least partial nasal patency, first stop using the product in one nostril and then stop using it in the other nostril when the discomfort has subsided. Patients with elevated intraocular pressure, especially those with angle-closure glaucoma (glaucoma), should consult a physician about the use of xylometazoline hydrochloride nasal drops. Rhinostas should only be used with extreme caution in the following cases. So please consult your doctor first if you - have elevated intraocular pressure, especially glaucoma (angle-closure glaucoma); - you suffer from severe heart disease (e.g. long QT interval syndrome) and circulatory diseases (e.g. coronary artery disease, high blood pressure); - you have an adrenal tumor (pheochromocytoma); - you suffer from prostate enlargement (hyperplasia); - you suffer from metabolic disorders (e.g. increased thyroid activity, diabetes).

Children Do not use in children under 6 years of age. Other medicines and Rhinostas Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any medicines you are taking, have recently taken or may be taking. If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, antidepressant medication from the monoamine oxidase inhibitor group (tranylcypromine) or tricyclic antidepressants or blood pressure medications, you may experience an increase in blood pressure when using Rhinostas at the same time due to the effects of these medications on your heart and circulation. Therefore, please consult your doctor first if you are taking antidepressant medications (monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors)) and other medications that potentially increase blood pressure; caution should be exercised when taking these products concurrently and for 14 days after discontinuation. Pregnancy and breastfeeding If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you think, that you might be pregnant, or you're planning to get pregnant, check with your doctor or pharmacist first, before using this product. Data on the administration of xylometazoline hydrochloride to pregnant women are limited or not available. Administration of Rhinostas in pregnancy is not recommended for precautionary reasons. 3 It is not known whether xylometazoline hydrochloride is excreted in breast milk. Risk to breastfed newborns/infants cannot be excluded. Administration of Rhinostas during the breastfeeding period is not recommended for precautionary reasons.
How to store Rhinostas
Keep this product out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the bottle and on the box after EXP. The expiry date shall be the last day of the month indicated. After the first opening, the medicine must not be used for more than 6 months. Do not use the medicine after this date. This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
