Wild teasel is a stout biennial plant growing up to 2m in height. It can be found along roadsides, in pastures, on rubble, in ditches, on ruins, or at the edges of forests and thickets. It occurs in almost all of Europe, but also in the Ciscaucasia, Asia Minor and Iran. The inflorescence is purple, sometimes even white, conical, prickly and up to 4 inches high. The flower itself is protected by spiny bracts which form a protective cage around it. It flowers from July to September, and the withered flower heads are very popular for use in flower arrangements and wreaths as a decoration.
The usable part is the root, which is collected in the autumn and used internally in the form of a decoction or tincture.
