Edge LED is a backlight technology that is often used in thinner and cheaper LED TVs. As the name suggests, the LEDs are placed around the edges of the screen. The light is then diffused by special panels to display the image. This arrangement allows the production of very thin TVs. However, the disadvantages of Edge LED are lower backlight uniformity and weaker contrast compared to Direct LED technology.
