The As-Drive system refers to the specific internal shape of the socket wrench head, often called the "nut". Unlike the classic hexagonal profile, where the force is transmitted directly to the corners of the screw or nut head when tightening or loosening, the As-Drive profile has slightly rounded inner walls. This shape moves the tool contact points from the sensitive corners to the screw head surfaces. The transfer of force to a larger surface area prevents damage, so-called "edge tear", even when high torque is applied. This system also allows for a more reliable engagement on bolts and nuts that are already slightly worn or have partially damaged edges because the tool is not resting directly on them.
