Displacement

Displacement, or volume, determines how much load a paddleboard can carry. Shorter boards compensate with thickness and width, whereas narrow, thin, long boards may have lower displacement. A family paddleboard (for loads over 130kg) requires a displacement of at least 320L to avoid sinking and creating drag while paddling. To quickly calculate the minimum board displacement for your build, multiply your weight by 3. The following table can help you determine the approximate displacement your paddleboard should have. However, the general rule is that a slightly larger displacement is better than a smaller one.
