Synology HAT5320-24T

The Synology HAT5320-24T hard drive is designed to store large volumes of data in continuous server operations and NAS systems. It provides a 24TB capacity and uses the SATA III interface with a transfer speed of up to 309MB/s. The drive features a modern helium-sealed design, which reduces air resistance inside the chassis. The helium-filled body lowers power consumption and also minimises the vibrations of the rotating platters. The device has a mean time between failures of 2,500,000 hours. Its construction handles a workload of up to 550TB per year in demanding conditions. CMR magnetic recording technology provides a stable write speed without performance drops as the drive fills up. A 1024MB cache buffer helps to process requests smoothly. The drive is suitable for systems with frequent file overwriting and intensive database work.

Testing and management

The device communicates via the SATA III interface with a throughput of 6Gb/s and is backward compatible with older standards. Fast platter rotation shortens access times to stored folders and applications. The drive has been tested for over 500,000 hours in Synology NAS and IP SAN environments. Firmware updates are done directly from DiskStation Manager with a single click, without using the command line. The Persistent Write Cache feature saves data from the cache buffer during a power failure. In idle mode, the drive's power consumption is 4.35W.
