Betzold Montessori mathematics teaching

The Betzold Montessori maths aid is designed to introduce children to the basics of arithmetic in a fun and playful way. In line with Montessori pedagogy, it helps children aged 4 and up to visually and tangibly understand the decimal system. The set provides practical exercises for converting units to tens, tens to hundreds, and hundreds to thousands. By handling the beads, rods, and plates, children grasp abstract mathematical concepts naturally.

Maths you can touch

The principle of this set is based on the visual representation of numerical orders. Units are represented by individual beads. Once a child collects ten beads, they can exchange them for one ten-rod. The same principle applies further – ten ten-rods correspond to one hundred-plate, and ten hundred-plates can be exchanged for one thousand-block. This maths teaching material enables children not only to see but also to physically manipulate the concept of the decimal system, which makes it easier to understand abstract arithmetic operations.
