Krick Karl und Marie kit

Krick Karl und Marie kit
The kit of the historical ship model is designed for skilled modellers. Karl und Marie is a typical Baltic schooner that was in service around the turn of the century. These small galleons, 15 to 20 metres long, were mainly used to transport goods along the coast. Typical cargo ships had a large cargo hold and good sailing behaviour. The Karl und Marie kit has been developed especially for beginners and intermediate modelers who want to build challenging historical ship models. Although the pattern does not look like a beginner's model, it can be assembled while following the building procedure, thanks to the detailed assembly plan. The construction is quite demanding in some respects, but the modeler for whom building is fun will be satisfied. The frame, keel and other components are laser cut. The kit has parts of excellent quality and e.g. the lining can be easily bent. The fitting set contains many finished parts. The plan, together with the building instructions, is particularly rich in overall views, individual and perspective drawings.

Set of drawings
The set contains a complete set of drawings documentation with the building process, the parts are carefully marked on the drawing and there is also a list of individual parts of the model.

Building difficulty 2
Kits for intermediate builders are suitable for builders who have already built a simple model for beginners and have basic modelling experience. Models of this difficulty are more elaborate, contain more details and are more time consuming to build.

Recommended equipment for building the model
It is recommended to buy tools, glue and paint for the construction. We recommend the Modelcraft Ship Modeler Tool Set (12 piece set) or the Modelcraft Modeler Tool Set (18 piece set). It is also recommended to purchase nylon clamps and indispensable modeling pins. For finishing, precision cutting, gluing of parts and also as a protection of the table it is recommended to use a modelling mat.

Glue and paint
When building model ships, you may encounter the bonding of different materials, like wood, plastics, metal, foils, laminate, etc. Each material is bonded with specific adhesives. Wood can be bonded with Speedbond PVA dispersion adhesives, but should not be used in areas with more permanent water exposure. For that case, epoxy adhesives are used: Speed Epoxy II 4 min. For smaller, smaller areas, instant adhesive can be used. Plastics are glued together with either instant glue or, in the case of smaller parts, Roket Max instant glue thick. When dealing with large parts, such as a large hull deck, Roket UV glue 20g can be recommended. Metal and laminate can be bonded with Epoxy adhesives. We recommend acrylic enamel paints for painting. Apply paint with good quality brushes (flat brushes for surfaces, round brushes for details).
