Safari Ltd. Figurine - Black Panther

The so-called "black panthers" are actually a melanistic colour variant of the leopard. This is caused by an excessive amount of the pigment melanin, which causes the animal's coat to be dark. It also occurs in the jaguar, which is also sometimes referred to as the "black panther", although it is less common. Although they look all black from a distance, when viewed up close these "big cats" still have their familiar spotted pattern.
